1918 Ty Cobb & George Sisler Signed Game Used Baseball--Both Pitch Before WWI Departure! The American entry into the Great War brought an early conclusion to the 1918 baseball season, and with both clubs long since eliminated from pennant contention, the Detroit Tigers and St. Louis Browns decided to have a bit of fun on the final day of play. Both Ty Cobb and George Sisler made their mound debuts on this occasion, the Peach surrendering a double to Sisler and giving up two runs in four innings of work. Sisler posted one inning of shutout ball. Presented is what must certainly be the only surviving memento of that last game before Cobb shipped off to war, quite possibly pitched by one or both of these Hall of Famers. Cobb's autograph is the boldest (5/10) on the battle scarred OAL (Johnson) ball, which is dated "Sept 1st 18" in his hand below his signature. Sisler's signature likewise appears, though it is only visible with a spectrometer. A few others are likewise teetering at the brink of illegibility. Condition issues must be forgiven in light of the remarkable vintage. One of the most unusual Cobb artifacts we've encountered. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.More information about Ty Cobb.
