1978 "Gentleman Dave" Malarcher Handwritten Letter. Rejecting the rough and tumble nature of the prewar game, Malarcher came by his "Gentleman Dave" nickname honestly, eschewing drinking, smoking and swearing as he established himself as one of the Negro Leagues' finest managers. He continued to demonstrate his classy ways in this note written to a young autograph seeker, which he signed twice (once on each of the two pages) "David J. Malarcher, 'Gentleman Dave.'" While highly desirable today, Malarcher's autograph will surely skyrocket in value if the considerable support for his Hall of Fame induction is ultimately successful. Both 5x8" pages are EX-MT (with original mailing folds), and all ink is 10/10. JSA Auction LOA.
