    Description

1974 Steve Prefontaine Signed Photograph. He was known as "The James Dean of Track," both for his reputation as a loner/rebel and his death in an automobile accident at age twenty-four. The American record holder in seven distance events during his lifetime, Prefontaine was responsible for the 1970's "running boom" and remains to this day the most recognizable name in the sport. Presented is the best signed photo we've ever encountered from Pre, taken during his warm-down lap after the 1974 Hayward Restoration meet in which he set an American record in the three-mile. The "To Lane, Steve Prefontaine" inscription is a bona fide 10/10, acquired in Eugene, Oregon in the Fall of 1974. Photo is likewise free of flaws, at 5x7" in size. Pre-certified by PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.
