1974 Nolan Ryan Nineteen Strikeout Game Used Baseball. He did it three(!) times during the 1974 season, but the first and third times took extra innings to reach nineteen K's. It was on August 12, 1974 that Ryan recorded the feat in a standard nine innings, tying the Major League record set by fellow Hall of Fame legends Tom Seaver and Steve Carlton. Presented is an OAL (MacPhail) ball used in that historic contest at Anaheim Stadium when Ryan fanned nineteen BoSox for the Angels cause. Side panel is boldly notated with the details, and the sweet spot is autographed in 9/10 black ink. Letter of provenance from Bruce Schworck. Pre-certified by PSA/DNA.The Ernie Schworck Collection
With a camera around his neck and a spirit of adventure in his heart, renowned photographer Ernie Schworck spent three decades in the employment of United Press International (UPI), aiming his lens at the most famous figures of twentieth century sport and politics. The collection that follows focuses primarily on the former, Schworck's Los Angeles residency making him a familiar face at Dodger Stadium and Anaheim Stadium. He's best remembered for his creation of some of the most famous photographs of legendary southpaw Sandy Koufax ever captured, images that he populated with hand-notated game used balls that served as living captions for no-hitters, World Series victories and other historic achievements. Schworck wisely retained many of these baseballs for his personal collection, and they make their hobby debut in the lots that follow. Several are accompanied by the photos for which they were created, and all include a letter of provenance from the Schworck family.
