    Description

1971 Willie Foster Signed Tax Form. Hall of Fame umpire Jocko Conlan once wrote, "Foster was comparable to Herb Pennock, only faster and had beautiful control." The half brother of Negro League pioneer Rube Foster, Willie was born far too soon to test his skills against Major League hitters, delaying his Hall of Fame induction until 1996, eighteen years after his passing at age seventy-four. Typical of most early Negro League players, autograph examples are few and far between, and vigorously pursued by collectors on the rare occasions that they surface. Such will certainly be the case for this Wilson County, Tennessee tax form which invoices charges assessed to the former Chicago American Giants southpaw. Handwritten in the bottom margin, "Pd in full by W.H. Foster" resonates at a perfect 10/10 boldness. The 7x8.5" form exhibits original storage folds but is otherwise free of flaws. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication. Pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
