    Description

1961 Ty Cobb Last Appearance at a Major League Game Signed Program. Fewer than three months before his passing, the Georgia Peach joined his former Tigers teammate and Angels general manager Fred Haney at Los Angeles' Wrigley Field for the expansion club's home opener. The seventy-four year old Hall of Famer, dying of cancer, hobbled to the mound before a disappointing crowd of 11,931 to throw out the first pitch, and only stayed two innings before retreating for the last time from the baseball spotlight. Fortuitously, one of the few fans present managed to corral the surly legend before his early departure, receiving what is certainly one of the very last autographs Cobb ever signed. It appears on the cover of the game program in NRMT blue ink, dated "4/27/61" in Cobb's hand. His buddy Fred Haney appears just below, equally strong. The program itself shows expected wear, with water staining along the right side which does not infringe upon the signatures. The scorecard has been filled out in pencil at center, further authenticating the piece with its proper home opener line-ups and scoring. A very special piece from the final page of one of baseball's most fascinating stories. LOA from Steve Grad & Zach Rullo/ PSA DNA.
