    Description

1954 President Dwight D. Eisenhower Signed Letter to Honus Wagner on His 80th Birthday, PSA/DNA Gem Mint 10. The Leader of the Free World sends birthday wishes to the Old Dutchman. This single typed page on "The White House" letterhead is labeled "Personal and Confidential" and delivers Ike's gracious remembrance of the Hall of Fame shortstop. "Realization that you now count your years at the four score mark," Eisenhower writes, "reminds me, with something of a shock, that it is fifty years ago that I used to follow your batting average with the keenest of interest. I venture to say that your name and the records you established are as well known to the boy of today as they were to me, and that, I think, must prove that you are truly one of baseball's immortal heroes." The President closes with an unimprovably bold black fountain pen signature. Some light toning and the original mailing fold represent the entirety of condition issues. Full Grading LOA from PSA/DNA, Gem Mint 10. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.
