    Description

1954 Joe DiMaggio & Marilyn Monroe Signed Page--Day of "Subway Grate" Filming! One of the most important dates in Marilyn Monroe's career would prove to be one of the most consequential of her short marriage, establishing the presented offering among the premier relics related to the ultimate blonde bombshell. In the early morning hours of September 15, 1954, Joe DiMaggio looked on as a subway train passed beneath his beautiful bride, billowing her pleated white skirt and providing "The Seven Year Itch" with its most memorable scene. The Yankee Clipper was outraged at the overt sexuality on public display, with some sources reporting that DiMaggio's disapproval took on a violent tone back at the hotel, leaving Marilyn bruised and intent upon ending the marriage, which she did just six weeks later.

An unknown hand dates the presented page to that memorable and terrible day, written in the same 9+/10 blue ink that forms each autograph. The page measures 5.5x8.5" with original storage folds but no other faults of note. The most intriguing Monroe/DiMaggio relic we've presented since a dual-signed baseball commanded $191,200 in our May 2006 Signature auction. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.
