    Description

1953 Hank Greenberg & William Harridge Signed Player Contracts Lot of 2. Offered in this lot are two Major League Baseball player contracts for the Cleveland Indians. Both are for the 1953 season, for Lou Brissie and Harry Simpson, and both contracts are also signed by GM Hank Greenberg and AL President William Harridge. For Brissie, this would be his final contract, after brief runs with both the Philadelphia A's and the Indians. Brissie was one of MLB's most decorated World War II heroes with two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Medal. He endured twenty-three surgeries on his leg before retuning to play baseball after the war.

"Suitcase" Simpson was one of the earliest African-Americans in baseball, and played for five different teams between 1951 and 1959, thus earning his nickname. He was an All-Star in 1956 and led the AL in triples twice.

The Simpson contract features an 8/10 autograph, with 9/10 signatures of Harridge and Greenberg. It is accompanied by a 1953 Bowman Color baseball card, as well as a 1953 Topps card. Brissie and Greenberg have signed the second contract in 10/10 ink with the Harridge ranking a 9/10. A 1952 Bowman card of Brissie is included. Both contracts are in mint condition with no detractions. Also included are cards of Harridge and Greenberg, and a news photograph of Greenberg signing another player in 1955. Pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
