1952 Duke Snider Handwritten Letter to Buzzie Bavasi Regarding a Contract Dispute. Coming off a year in which he hit .277 with twenty-nine home runs and 101 RBI, Duke Snider thought he had at least a small raise in store. Instead, he was furious when Buzzie Bavasi recommended a $1,000 decrease. This handwritten three-page letter by Snider addresses Bavasi, chides him for only remembering the last six weeks of the season in which Snider struggled, and even quotes a letter from the prior year where Bavasi wrote that Snider probably deserved a raise every year. In fact, the previous season Bavasi also got Snider to sign for less due to the drop in attendance. But the "Duke of Flatbush" wasn't playing that game again in 1952.

A typed reply from Bavasi on Brooklyn Dodgers letterhead is also included, stating that the Wage Stabilization Board has made a determination that if one player gets a $1,000 raise, another player must lose $1,000. Bavasi holds his ground in the argument.

Both signatures are in 10/10 ink, and Snider's letter is written on 7x10.5" Ozell Manor letterhead. Pre-certified by PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.
