1951-78 Jim Turner Collection of Ephemera Lot of 9. Beginning his major league career in 1937 with the Boston Bees, Turner turned in an amazing rookie season with a 20-11 record, league-leading 2.38 ERA, and 5 shutouts. Although he never quite repeated these numbers in his playing career, Turner went on to spend the rest of his life in Major League Baseball. Retiring as a player in 1945, Turner quickly went to work for the New York Yankees.

Included in this lot are four coaching contracts (1967, 1969, 1970, 1971), all signed by Joseph Cronin and three signed by Lee MacPhail (two of those also include a typed and signed note on Yankees letterhead from MacPhail). Another MacPhail letter from 1951 is included, along with a list of minor league pitchers Turner was asked to check into. A 1959 letter signed by Warren Giles, NL President, is accompanied by its original envelope. Yogi Berra is included on a thank you note on Yankees letterhead to Turner dated October 25, 1963. An interesting addition to the lot is a letter addressed to Hall of Famer Ralph Kiner from George Steinbrenner III and dated 1979. Finally, a photograph of Turner in his New York Yankees playing uniform is also part of this unique lot. Autographs average 9/10, with some 10/10's. Pre-Certified by PSA/DNA (autographs).
