    Description

1951-52 Major League Pitching Staff Signed Sheets & Handwritten Letters. Intriguing compilation of paperwork derives from the collection of a New York City baseball statistician gauging support for his new system of pitcher ratings based upon average total bases per nine inning game. Eleven responses are here, almost uniformly positive, each typically autographed by approximately ten to twelve members of the pitching staff. Teams represented/notables: Pirates (Friend, Wilks), Reds (Blackwell, Raffensberger), Braves (Spahn, Bickford), Red Sox (Parnell, Gumpert), Phillies (Roberts, Konstanty), Cardinals (Brecheen, Boyer), White Sox (Gumpert, Kretlow), Browns (Paige, Byrne), Athletics (Shantz, Hooper), Senators (Harris, Ferrick), Tigers (Newhouser, Trucks), Yankees (Reynolds, Raschi). Also here are handwritten and signed letters on the topic from Feller (2), Reynolds (3), Kiner. Pages show original mailing folds and some handling wear but no problematic issues. All ink is 9/10 or better. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication. Pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
