    Description

1950's Bob Cain & Jim Delsing (Eddie Gaedel At Bat) Collection (3 items). On August 19, 1951, Bill Veeck made baseball history and earned his St. Louis Browns the weirdest walk on record when he sent to the batter's box Eddie Gaedel - all 3' 7" of him. The pitcher that day was Bob Cain. He tells his side of the event as such, "As you may know, Eddie Gaedel stepped out of a big birthday cake wearing a Brownie uniform #1/8. We all thought it was a big joke until the umpire asked for his contract which the Browns manager produced...I walked him on four pitches high." Offered is a trio of items associated with the event: 1) 1951 Bowman baseball card # featuring Bob Cain, signed in blue ink; 2) "Cain Pitching to Midget" promo card signed and inscribed by Bob Cain, "To Adam, Best Wishes. Bob Cain:" 3) Hand written letter from Jim Delsing who was the pinch runner for Gaedel. Delsing once said about his career, "Maris may have hit 61, but I'm the one who ran for a midget." Written in blue marker. Pre-certified
