1950 Brooklyn Dodgers African-American Stars Signed Baseball with Robinson, Campanella. After three seasons of integration for the Major Leagues, the brave pioneers of that movement returned to their Negro League roots with a barnstorming tour in the Fall of 1949. Presented is a very rare baseball signed by the stars of that tour, undertaken a full decade and a half before racial segregation was officially outlawed by the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Jackie Robinson, Roy Campanella, Don Newcombe and Dan Bankhead are the only residents on the ONL (Giles) ball, each rating about a 4/10 due to moisture damage that has given each autograph a hazy quality. A handwritten date of "August 26, 1950" suggests the ball was signed during the Dodgers' regular season rather than Robinson's barnstorming tour (they beat the Reds in Cincinnati this day), but clearly the focus on only the black players was no coincidence, making this a fine memento of the team's critical importance in the integration of our National Pastime. Pre-certified by PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.
