    Description

1950 Bobby Wallace Handwritten Signed Letter--Two Autographs! Bobby Wallace began his Big League career as a pitcher and ended it sixty years later as a scout. In 1899, while with the Cardinals, Wallace moved to shortstop, where he fielded well and hit twenty or more doubles twelve times. In 1902, Mr. Shortstop jumped to the St. Louis Browns. Overall, he led the American League in assists twice and fielding percentage three times, and in 1902, set the league record for most chances in one game (17). Following his playing days, he also managed, coached and umpired. We offer a fantastic letter from 1950 to two brothers who were collecting autographs. He writes, "Am afraid you boy's have me mixed up with some other Bobby Wallace. I never played any baseball for the Cincinnati Reds. My only connection with the club has been as a scout for the past twenty six years. My playing days were as follows. 5 years as pitcher and 3rd base for Cleveland. 20 years as 3rd baseman and shortstop for St. Louis. Figure it up and you will find that I am a real old timer." He closes with "Best wishes, R.J. 'Bob' Wallace." All ink is 9/10 and page exhibits original mailing folds but no other issues of note. Original mailing envelope, unsigned, is included. Full LOA from James Spence Authentication. Pre-Certified by PSA/DNA.
