1948 Brooklyn Dodgers Team Signed Baseball. Though the presented ONL (Frick) sphere is hand notated as a 1947 model, the appearance of Roy Campanella along with the brave Jackie Robinson assures that the original owner was mistaken in the vintage. Twenty-six fellow Bums join this pioneering pair, notably Snider, Reese, Hodges, Furillo, Roe, Hermanski, Shotton and Branca. Signature quality averages 6/10, with a few (only Reese from the list above) dipping below that mark. Ball is somewhat unevenly shellacked but still presents nicely, and recalls an important era when baseball was taking its first steps in undoing decades of racial wrongs. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication (asserts Snider, Hermanski, Cox, Shotton, Hopp are traced).. Pre-certified by PSA/DNA (asserts CH Snider & Reese, and Shotton traced).

This lot derives from the collection of the late Reverend G. Richard McKelvey, a true pioneer of the baseball autograph collecting hobby. For nearly eight decades, Reverend McKelvey actively compiled his collection of in-person autographs, and is widely recognized as the innovator of "theme balls," paving the way for the wildly popular 500 Home Run Club and 300 Win Club baseballs of today. Many other noteworthy pieces from his collection are currently up for bidding in our Sunday Internet Sports Auctions.
