1947-48 Leon Day Signed Puerto Rican Winter League Contract. Though the brave Jackie Robinson had launched the first volley in the war for racial equality in the Major Leagues earlier in 1947, the Negro Leagues were still very much alive when one of its greatest stars signed up for action with the Santurce club of the Puerto Rican League. Here we present the exceedingly rare paperwork that secured the Hall of Famer's services for the island nation's most dominant squad, a club that includes such legends as Josh Gibson, Satchel Paige, Roy Campanella, Willie Mays and Roberto Clemente in its history.

The standard four-page "Contrato de Jugador" dictates a rather impressive $200 weekly salary for the superstar right hander, the contract executed in Mexico City where Day represented the Reds of the Mexican League. Day's 9/10 fountain pen ink signature on the second page joins that of the club president and two witnesses. Original storage folds and punch holes appears, as does a small stain at right edge of the first page that does not affect any text. Contracts relating to Negro League Hall of Famers are all but impossible to locate, so serious collectors should consider this a "now or never" opportunity. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
