1942 Babe Ruth Signed Photograph to "The Pride of the Yankees" Castmate. Though it has been well-documented that Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig shared a rocky relationship throughout their historic years in the Bronx, the tragic news of the Iron Horse's illness buried any hatchets that remained between them. In a final tribute to his teammate, Ruth appeared as himself in the biopic that is ranked by many as the greatest sports film of all time, and which served to further elevate Gehrig in the pantheon of the game's legendary figures. The provided photograph finds Ruth posing with actor Vernon Rickard, who played a fellow Yankee in the film. It is inscribed in 8/10 black fountain pen ink, "To My Pal Vernon From Babe Ruth." A notation below in an unknown hand places the shot at the Los Angeles ballpark where much of the game sequences were filmed. The 8x10" photo shows light wear at the edges, but would easily be matted and framed to a NRMT appearance. Also included is a 3.5x5" snapshot, presumably also from Rickard's collection, that finds Rickard, Ruth, Gary Cooper and a couple other actors between takes at the filming. NRMT.
