1942 Babe Ruth Signed Letter While Filming "The Pride of the Yankees." PSA/DNA Mint 9. Gracious typed letter on "Samuel Goldwyn, Inc., Ltd." letterhead is dated "April 23, 1942," corresponding with the Babe's participation in the celebrated Lou Gehrig biopic "The Pride of the Yankees." He writes to a young boy in East Rutherford, New Jersey, stating "There is only one nice thing about being ill and that is the number of friends who are kind and thoughtful enough to send cheering messages. Such messages, including your own, did me more good than any medicine." He regrets not being able to write more, explaining, "...trying to be a movie actor all day and recuperating under doctor's orders in the evening leaves just enough time to say, 'Thank you, everybody!'" The charming correspondence concludes with the finest autograph possible, a flawlessly rendered and impossibly bold 10/10 black fountain pen offering. The page exhibits original mailing folds, light toning and is clipped of the lower two inches, but none of these issues distracts from the display. Full Grading LOA from PSA/DNA, Mint 9. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.
