1941 Joe McCarthy Signed Statement Regarding "The Pride of the Yankees." "I had him for over eight years and he never gave me a moment's trouble," the Hall of Fame Yankees manager once said of his dependable first baseman. "I guess you might say he was kind of my favorite." McCarthy's praise of the Iron Horse continued after his tragic passing, as is evidenced by this single typed page carrying a statement regarding the upcoming release of the famed Gehrig biopic. "His humility," it reads, in part, "even at the height of his great popularity, has left an indelible imprint not only on professional baseball, but upon millions of American citizens." The stamp of Christy Walsh appears at lower left, indicating that McCarthy supplied this statement to Gehrig's former agent for use in promotional efforts for the film. Page exhibits original mailing folds but no other issues of note. McCarthy's black fountain pen signature rates 9/10. Pre-certified by PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.
