    Description

1941 Joe DiMaggio Signed Statement re: "The Pride of the Yankees." "Just as my locker in the Yankee clubhouse adjoined Lou Gehrig's, so his deeds and memory and above all his ideals as a man, will be close to my heart in the years to come...The Yankees are out to win the pennant this year and we sincerely hope that Lou Gehrig's picture will win the highest Academy awards." As is the case with the Joe McCarthy statement likewise presented within this auction, this single page text was delivered to famed agent Christy Walsh for promotion of the famous biopic. DiMaggio's, with Walsh's stamp appearing at lower left. An unknown hand dates the letter "New York, 7/29/41" in pencil at lower left, less than two weeks after his hitting streak ended at fifty-six games. Page exhibits original storage folds otherwise fine, with 9+/10 black fountain pen signature. Pre-certified by PSA/DNA. Auction LOA form James Spence Authentication.
