    Description

1941 Joe DiMaggio Signed Baseball Used in 50th Hit Game of Streak. Even with nine World Championships, three American League MVP's and Marilyn Monroe in his trophy case, Joe DiMaggio's primary claim to fame remains his stunning unbroken chain of fifty-six games strung together in 1941. The few relics that have surfaced from that fabled streak have set auction records, with one of the bats used to construct the masterpiece commanding nearly $350,000. This offering rates near the top of that thin supply, an OAL (Harridge) sphere from the July 11th contest at Sportsman's Park in St. Louis where a four-hit performance (with a home run) carried Joltin' Joe to an even fifty games.

DiMaggio's beautiful period handwriting inscribes the ball to the publisher of The Sporting News, writing, "Celebrating game 50 With Best Wishes to J.G. Taylor Spink from Joe DiMaggio." A second inscription is from DiMaggio's fellow Hall of Fame resident, umpire Bill Klem, who dedicates the ball to an unknown figure and dates it "July 11, 1941." It's unclear why the ball holds two separate presentation inscriptions, but it is noteworthy that each assigns the same vintage. DiMaggio's text is 8/10; Klem's is 5/10. One of the most exciting game used baseball offerings of the 2015 auction season. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.
