    Description

1940's-90's Red Ruffing Personally Owned Ephemera Archive. Sometimes when you handle the entire collection of a legendary Hall of Famer, you end up with a lot of odds and ends that are hard to match up with other lots. The result is something like this archive lot of Red Ruffing's personal keepsakes. A veritable treasure trove, this awesome assortment should garner plenty of attention. Among the highlights are: Hillerich & Bradsby Model 125 Charles Ruffing "Member of Baseball's Hall of Fame" commemorative bat in Near Mint condition, a 12.5x15" matted "Mel Allen's Radio Score Card" fully scored from Ruffing's 250th victory on June 6th, 1942, 1951 Cleveland Indians pennant (12x29"), early 1950's Brooklyn Dodgers N.L. Champions pennant (8x26") and a 1974 American League pass in original case with calendar.

Two medals are included: a "Republican Presidential Task Force Medal of Merit" from George Bush, along with a small matching pin, and a 1943 "Helms Olympic Athletic Foundation Athlete of the Month July 1943" engraved to Ruffing. Among the signed photographs are: Mickey Mantle (8x10" artwork, 8/10 signature), Mel Allen (8x10 vintage photo inscribed to Ruffing, 7/10) and an 8x10 news photo inscribed to Ruffing and signed by teammate Bill Dickey in ballpoint pen (8/10).

Two White House reception invitations are in the lot, including one from 1969 and one from 1981. The latter includes a copy of the menu signed by President Ronald Reagan (9/10). Two letters regarding a U.S. Senate Resolution honoring Ruffing's HOF induction accompany the paperwork in this collection, as well as a signed typed letter from Ed Barrow regarding Ruffing's contract for 1940 (8/10). A beautiful 13x30" double matted photo progression of three 8x10's shows Ruffing in rare form, swinging a bat. Finally, we offer three pieces of original sports editorial cartoon art featuring Ruffing. Letter of provenance from the Ruffing family.
