    Description

1940 Louis Zamperini Signed Track Program. It took Angelina Jolie's film "Unbroken" to bring widespread fame to Louis Zamperini, who passed away less than a year ago at age ninety-seven. Zamperini's survival to that advanced age was part miracle, part heroism, as he survived the crash of his B-24 bomber into the Pacific Ocean, and then forty-seven days adrift in a life raft, before the worst of his World War II nightmare began. After two years of torture in a Japanese prisoner of war camp, Zamperini was freed and returned home to a hero's welcome, and a lifetime of inspiration and forgiveness.

Prior to this harrowing tale of bravery and resilience, Zamperini had been an elite distance runner, competing in the 1936 Berlin Olympics and meeting Adolf Hitler, who had been impressed by his late "kick" in the 5000 Meters. Four years later, Zamperini was a contestant in the Tenth Annual Southern California College Relays, where he signed the cover of its program with one other runner.

While Zamperini's long life supplied the hobby with quite a few autograph exemplars, we've never seen another dating to the time before the Second World War. His black fountain pen signature rates 9/10 on the 6x9" eight-page publication, which exhibits age toning and light handling wear but no condition problems of any consequence. Pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
