    Description

1940 Charles "Chief" Bender Single Signed Baseball. An alumnus of the same Carlisle Indian Industrial School which graduated Jim Thorpe, Bender became one of the top pitching stars of the Dead Ball Era, with Ty Cobb himself calling him "the most intelligent pitcher I've ever faced." Here we present a tremendously scarce example of his single, only the fourth example Heritage has ever offered. The medium is an ONL (Frick) ball bearing the side panel stamping of a minor league president, but hand signed only by the Native American ace, "To Tommy, 'Chief' Bender, 4/19/40." Ink rates 5/10, and the ball exhibits some scuffing well clear of the signed panel and a few stray, insignificant spots of toning. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Full LOA from James Spence Authentication.
