    Description

1939 Hack Wilson Signed Hall of Fame First Day Cover. Just a month before his passing, penniless and all but forgotten by the game he once mastered, Wilson granted an interview to CBS Radio, saying, "Talent isn't enough. You need common sense and good advice. If anyone tries to tell you different, tell them the story of Hack Wilson... Kids in and out of baseball who think because they have talent they have the world by the tail. It isn't so. Kids, don't be too big to accept advice. Don't let what happened to me happen to you." Though his Cooperstown plaque would be unveiled more than three decades after his death, at least one fan remembered the stocky slugger in his retirement, rather presciently presenting this Baseball Hall of Fame Inaugural first day cover for signing. The black fountain pen "Lewis Hack Wilson" is the picture of perfection, and the condition of the envelope itself is likewise beyond reproach. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.
