    Description

1938 New York Yankees Legends Signed Oversized Photograph. The Trylon and Perisphere patches affixed to the left sleeves of the quintet's road greys date this remarkable image to the 1938 season, the imagery utilized to promote the impending arrival of the World's Fair at the Yankees' New York City hometown. The confident posture of the mighty Iron Horse at center is heartbreaking in retrospect, as his own world was about to be turned upside-down with a fatal diagnosis. He is flanked by a pair of Yankee superstars at each shoulder; Joe DiMaggio and Tommy Henrich to his right, and Bill Dickey and Joe Gordon to his left. All five have applied a black fountain pen signature over his respective image, today ranging from 3/10 to 5/10 in strength. The oversized (11x14") dimensions are quite rare for the pre-war era and suggest this would have been a presentation piece for a noteworthy figure, though there is no attribution or personalizations to be found. A couple very minor tears and general handling wear appear at the edges, but would easily be disguised by a very simple matting job, allowing the photo to present without any distractions of note.
