1937 Casey Stengel Signed Handwritten Letter. Written to his father in January of 1937, this letter from Casey Stengel shows a personal side to "The Old Perfessor." It would come between managerial stints at Brooklyn and Boston in his first year off from baseball. He would also take a six-year hiatus between 1944-1948 before beginning his famous stint at the helm of the Yankees. He begins by writing about an investment in the Dallas oil fields, saying he already hit oil on two of three leases and was considering another $5,000 investment. He goes on to say he sold stock in order to gain cash to go into this new lease if it looks good. He does mention a contract for the 1937 season he planned to start May 1st, but this stint must have fallen through.

Stengel then moves on to inform his father of his mother-in-law's health and the cold weather they were having. After more health discussions, he writes about helping his father pay off a note, after which he would work on his own. The letter is signed in his real name, Charles D. Stengel. As he was writing while on a bumpy train, he double signed over his signature, making the autograph a 5/10 purely due to the double signature. The entire letter, on two 7x11" sheets, is penned in Stengel's hand and is in bold 9/10 or better ink, aside from spots of retracing done by Stengel on the train. A couple minor water stains appear but do not detract. Additionally, the original mailing envelope is also included. Pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
