    Description

1936 Lou Gehrig Signed Government Postcard to Lou Gerig. It might be the most interesting Gehrig autographed item we've handled, a fun conversation piece which will have your friends demanding that there's no way it could be genuine--it's misspelled, for heaven's sake!--until you flip it over. The backside of the provided penny postcard is addressed to "Lou Gerig" of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, a newborn whose father charmingly wrote to the Yankees legend in the voice of his infant son to report he had been named in Gehrig's honor. A copy of that letter is included.

The postcard represents the Iron Horse's reply, addressed as described on back and inscribed on front, "Best Wishes Lou, Lou Gehrig" in the same 9/10 pencil. The "June 12, 1936" postmark coincides with a nine to six victory over the Detroit Tigers in the Bronx, Gehrig recording two hits and a run batted in during his second American League MVP season. The lot is consigned to auction by the Gerig family. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Full LOA from James Spence Authentication.
