1934 Babe Ruth Single Signed Baseball. The included letter of provenance from our consignor tells the story well: "In 1934, my mother Francesca Burnham Holly was employed by George Weiss in the Newark office of the baseball team known as the Newark Bears. George Weiss was at that time Vice President of the minor league team. In 1934, Babe Ruth visited the Newark office to discuss a contract offering him a position to manage the Newark Bears. At the time of his visit he gave her this signed baseball."

It was reported that the Bears position would be a testing ground for Ruth's eventual ascension to the Yankees managerial role, but ultimately the 1934 season would prove to be the last of his affiliation with the team he elevated to the pinnacle of the baseball world. So one can't help but feel a twinge of sadness for the Bambino when holding this Official International League sphere, signed for a Newark Bears employee when that dream was still alive. The side panel signature, a necessary departure from the norm due to factory stamping on each sweet spot, rates an impressive 8/10, and the ball itself retains a creamy vintage tone. Letter of provenance from consignor. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.
