1933 Lou Gehrig Handwritten Signed Letter. We see the same kind and gracious manner that made Gehrig's 1939 farewell one of the most famous speeches in American history in this neatly written letter to Daily Mirror sportswriter Ken Smith. The text, in its entirety:

"Dear Friend Ken, Just received your letter regarding Danbury - due to an extended trip west - with my new bride - I'm really sorry, Ken, but maybe I will be in the position in the near future to show and prove I am sincere when I say I will fulfill this obligation some time - Surely you must have known I was far out west and just returned yesterday. Several phone calls were unsuccessful, so I'm writing you - My sincere thanks for your kind thoughts, with kindest personal regards - Cordially Lou."

The single page of Gehrig's personal letterhead remains in splendid condition, with original mailing folds, and the pencil writing is likewise faultless. The letter includes its original mailing envelope, boldly addressed in Gehrig's hand but unsigned. The letter is matted and framed to dimensions of 11x15". A gorgeous, rare and enormously desirable relic from the noblest man ever to wear the Yankee pinstripes. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
