1933 Goudey Babe Ruth #144, Signed, PSA/DNA Authentic. It's the most recognizable Ruth card ever printed, a splendid batting portrait deriving from the most popular issue of the Depression era. The Babe entered the 1933 season fresh on the heels of his final World Championship season, one best remembered for his apocryphal "Called Shot" posted in a four-game Series sweep of the Chicago Cubs. It is widely believed that fewer than five examples of this card have been blessed with the application of the hobby's most essential signature, and this is the second example that Heritage has had the privilege to offer, the first garnering $20,315 in our May 2013 Signature Auction. Ruth's black fountain pen ink ranges between 6/10 and 7/10, the surname a bit bolder than the slugger's famous nickname. The lower border has been trimmed, a common ailment within this issue, and the back exhibits the signs of scrapbook removal. Such deficiencies must be forgiven in light of the tremendous rarity, however, as this is unquestionably a glass half full. Encapsulated by PSA/DNA, Authentic.
