1933 Babe Ruth, Mel Ott, John McGraw Signed Baseball. We have Christy Walsh, generally considered to be America's first sports agent, to thank for this fantastic sphere, originally created for a lucky VIP at the 1933 World Series. Walsh was known for autographed keepsakes such as these, affixing a signed baseball to an ink blotter to serve as a unique desk accessory for his powerful friends. While the blotter is long gone, the all-important "Babe Ruth Home Run Special" baseball remains, adorned with eight autographs from the elite athletes in attendance. Most notable is Walsh's prized client Babe Ruth himself, who occupies his typical sweet spot position. To the east, we encounter twin Giants Mel Ott and John McGraw, who would conquer the Washington Senators that October. McGraw signature is enhanced. Fellow Polo Grounds Hall of Famer Carl Hubbell joins Lefty O'Doul, Blondy Ryan and Hal Schumacher to the west. A final Giant of Cooperstown, Bill Terry, is due north. A bold block lettered notation reading "World Series 1933, Giants vs. Washington" is to the south. The mounting hole from the ball's application to an ink blotter remains well clear of all writing. A thin coating of shellac and moderate surface wear must be noted, but all autographs remain readily legible, ranging in strength from 5/10 to 9/10. LOA from PSA/DNA. LOA from James Spence Authentication.More information about Babe Ruth.
