1931 Helen Wills-Moody Wightman Cup Championship Gold Medal. This was the ninth edition of the annual women's tennis team competition between the United States and Great Britain, held at the West Side Tennis Club in Forest Hills, Queens, New York City. Wills-Moody won each of her singles matches in straight sets but fell to the Brits in a tightly contested doubles tilt. That loss was one of just two for the American side, which claimed the Cup by a tally of five matches to two. Presented is Wills-Moody's personal victor's prize for membership on the winning side, a large ten karat gold plated medallion measuring 2.75" in diameter. Obverse celebrates the Golden Jubilee of the American Lawn Tennis Association, while verso trumpets the text, "Winner, International Wightman Cup, Team Match, England vs. United States, Forest Hills, New York, U.S.A., 1931, Won by United States, 5 Matches to 2, Mrs. H.W. Moody, Championship 1931." Flawless condition, in original velvet-lined display case.
