1930 Tris Speaker Signed Baseball. Just two seasons after the Grey Eagle closed out his spectacular Hall of Fame career with Ty Cobb as a member of the '28 Athletics, Speaker penned this black ink side panel inscription to a young fan. Though PSA/DNA claims that abrasions on opposing panels indicate signature removal, the ball certainly presents as a highly coveted single. Happily, despite a degree of wear that has left the maker's stampings too light to discern, the all important inscription reading "Dave Jr., From Tris Speaker" remains in remarkable 7/10 condition. On the panel above, the penned date of "Aug. 30, 1930" is equally strong. Though often overlooked by collectors chasing Ruth, Gehrig and Cobb, Speaker certainly deserves his due as one of the true elite of the early game, and as such no quality autograph collection can afford his absence. LOA from PSA/DNA.
