The Hall of Fame slugger's personal keepsake

1930 Chicago Cubs Signed Photograph Album Belonging to Lewis "Hack" Wilson. He's one of the game's more tragic figures, from a city that has bred more than its share, from "Shoeless Joe" Jackson to Ken Hubbs. For this stout Cubs slugger, however, it was the bottle that would precipitate an early ending to both his career and his life, but not before he etched his name indelibly into the sport's history books with a Cooperstown plaque and the most productive season ever authored. The provided photo album finds Wilson on the cusp of that peerless 1931 season, one in which his thunderous Louisville Slugger plated 191 runs, a record that has survived both the expansion to 162 games and the high-octane steroid era.

Wilson's 1930 season was nearly as spectacular, his 159 RBI's tops in the Senior Circuit. One can sense the affection such brilliance garnered in Hack's teammates through the friendly inscriptions that appear on the twenty-seven signed photographs from the celebrated studio of George Burke. They reside within the provided leatherbound volume embossed in gold, "Lewis 'Hack' Wilson, The Cubs, 1930." The Hall of Fame entries:

    · "With Best Wishes to Hack from Joe McCarthy."
    · "Just a great Pal from one who knows-Nuff Sed, Gabby Hartnett."
    · "To my Friend Hack Wilson from Rogers Hornsby."
    · "To my old sidekick Hack, good luck always, Hazen 'Ki Ki' Cuyler."

Other notables include "Called Shot" victim Charlie Root, Charlie Grimm, Woody English, Riggs Stephenson. Each photo measures 4x6". Three photos (not included in count of twenty-seven) are unsigned. Autographs average 8/10 and all photos remain in splendid condition, firmly affixed to the black album pages. Leatherbound covers exhibit some handling/storage wear, but nothing that diminishes the aesthetics or appeal. A rare and remarkable personal memento from one of the most compelling figures of the Depression-era game. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Full LOA from James Spence Authentication.
