    Description

1929 Philadelphia Athletics Team Signed Panoramic Photograph, PSA Mint 9. This is the first, and arguably the finest, of Connie Mack's elite Athletic editions, presented in our most favored format. We've always loved the vintage weirdness of team panoramics, the way that the background falls away at the edges like an M.C. Escher creation because of the distortion of perspective that results from the manner in which panoramics were created.

While it would appear the team is standing in a straight line, they were actually arranged in a semicircle equidistant from a camera that slowly rotated to take in the full scene. So while the figures at the center of the image might be standing in front of home plate, those at the edges could have their backs to the foul poles, making the grandstands behind them appear to bend away from the viewer.

But, of course, the primary appeal here is the extraordinary cast of immortals that made this team World Champions. Twenty-one of the twenty-eight pictured have signed (including the batboy).

Eleven authentic signatures include: Al Simmons, Lefty Grove, Connie Mack, Kid Gleason (1919 Black Sox manager), Max Bishop, Joe Boley, Bing Miller, Eddie Rommel, Mule Haas, Rube Walberg, and Jack Quinn. (Note: Grove appears to have signed twice. The second signature is over his first attempt). Nine clubhouse signatures include: Eddie Collins, Mickey Cochrane, Jimmie Foxx, Jimmy Dykes, George Earnshaw, Homer Summa, Bill Shores, Cy Perkins, and Earl Mack.

The black fountain pen signatures average an impressive and quite consistent 7/10, and there are no major condition flaws. Framed 31x8.5" (29.75x6.75" is visible in frame). Full Grading LOA from PSA/DNA, Mint 9.
