    Description

1928 Lou Gehrig Signed Photograph. One of the finest Gehrig signed photos we've ever encountered comes with ironclad provenance to boot, deriving from the family of the ballplayer to whom it is inscribed. Apparently gifted to O'Connor during spring training exercises following Gehrig's American League MVP and World Championship 1927 season, the photo is inscribed, "To my real, true & sincere friend, Pat O'Conner (sic), Most Sincerely, Lou Gehrig, March 07, 1928." Gehrig's black fountain pen ink survives with marvelous 9/10 boldness, and the 6.5x9" photo presents flawlessly, thanks in part to a heavy cardstock mounting likely applied decades ago. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.

    The Paddy O'Connor Collection.

This is one of sixteen lots deriving from the personal collection of Paddy O'Connor, a native of County Kerry, Ireland who quickly discovered an aptitude for our National Pastime upon his immigration to the States. O'Connor's baseball career included brief terms in the American, National and Federal Leagues, and most notably membership with the World Championship 1909 Pittsburgh Pirates. The material offered here is consigned directly by the O'Connor family.
