1928 Babe Ruth & Lou Gehrig Signed Baseball. In a time when Big League baseball ventured no further west than the Mississippi River, these Yankee Hall of Famers were the game's greatest ambassadors, touring the nation and later the world to showcase their talents. This Official International League ball dates from the pinstriped duo's American barnstorming days in the weeks following their four-game annihilation of the St. Louis Cardinals in the Series. Ruth and Gehrig are ideally positioned on a side panel for simultaneous display, with the black fountain pen ink still intensely bold, though affected to a degree by surface wear to rate a technical 7/10 and 5/10 respectively. Our catalog imagery should illustrate that the cracked brown horsehide, darkened on two panels by a coating of shellac, still presents very nicely. The panel to the north of the autographs is notated "Oct. 21, 1928" in an unknown hand. A fine artifact from the heart of the Murderer's Row era. LOA from PSA/DNA. LOA from James Spence Authentication.
