1927 Babe Ruth & Lou Gehrig Signed Barnstorming Baseball.A coveted vestige of what will likely be forever considered the greatest diamond duo of all-time, this vintage baseball is autographed by the 1927 Murderer's Row stalwarts Babe Ruth (sixty home runs) and Lou Gehrig (A.L. MVP). Having combined to tally an astonishing 107 home runs and 339 RBI that year, the pair teamed to drive in eleven more in a four-game World Series sweep that played out as a mere formality.
On October 10, two days after the Series finale, the two embarked on a twenty-one-day barnstorming tour as the Bustin' Babes and Larrupin Lous. During that profitable journey (Babe pocketed $70,000, Lou made $10,000), the baseball on offer here was endorsed by both champions, as well as by an additional player, Ray Grimes.
ONL (Heydler) sphere appears to be game used considering the type of soiling and surface abrasions. Ruth (8/10) and Gehrig (6/10) have signed to the right of the ONL stamp in black steel-tip fountain pen. Between the signatures is a "10-14-27" inscription which corresponds to a game between Lima and Celina that Ruth and Gehrig both played in. Above Grimes' signature (5/10) is a "10-30-27" inscription which corresponds to a game played at Wrigley Field (Los Angeles) where Gehrig hit two home runs to lift the Lous over the Babes.
In addition to the presence of Ruth and Gehrig and its 1927 vintage, it is interesting to note that Ruth and Gehrig signed ball rarely feature the two on the same panel, making this heirloom all the more appealing.
