    Description

1926 Walter Johnson Signed (Endorsed) Christy Walsh World Series Check. In the 1925 World Series, the Washington Senators returned to the series after winning in 1924. They would come up short, though, to the Pittsburgh Pirates in seven games. Johnson dominated in Games One and Four, then took a 6-4 lead into the seventh inning. Shortstop Roger Peckinpaugh made errors in the next two innings leading to four unearned runs against Johnson, and a Pittsburgh title.

Offered here is a stellar example of a signed check on every level. The check is on the account of The Christy Walsh Syndicate and is signed by Walsh in 9/10 ink. To make it far better, the check is made out to Walter Johnson and endorsed by him on the verso in 6/10 ink, due to a smudge in the "J" of Johnson. Finally, making it ultra special is the typed text above Johnson's signature, reading "On a/c 1925 World Series." Although it is unsure exactly what the $500 check was for, the relation to the 1925 World Series adds a historical note to the piece. The check is in Very Good to Excellent condition, with the primary flaw being a piece missing from the bottom left corner. There are three vertical folds and a crease in the top left. Cancellation stamps and punch holes do not interfere with either autograph. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.
