1926 Babe Ruth & Knute Rockne Inscribed Photograph. Two of the biggest stars in the Walsh stable provide for one of the most unique lots in the collection, an oversized (11.5x15" framed) photograph of the pair on the Notre Dame football practice field, inscribed by each. The Babe's distinctive 10/10 black fountain pen script jokes, "I said to Knute 'I'd like to hit against a ball like that!'" The tragic coach responds, in 9/10 blue fountain pen ink, "I said to Babe 'You wouldn't have a kick coming.'" Only autographs could make the piece more perfect, but it's still a remarkable (and remarkably rare) artifact blessed by the hands of two of the greatest athletic figures of the Golden Age. The photo itself is flawless, with a notation reading "At Notre Dame, Sept. 1926" penned at lower right in an unknown hand. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
