1925 New York Yankees Purchase of Tony Lazzeri Contract. New York Yankees history is made as a young Italian infielder named "Antone Lazzere" is purchased from the "Salt Lake Baseball Club" of the Pacific Coast League. Talent like that didn't come cheap, as the details spell out five separate payments of ten thousand dollars for the future Hall of Famer, as well as the assignment of four players (two to be named later). The "Uniform Agreement for the Assignment of a Player's Contract to or by a Major League Club" is signed at the close by Yankees president and owner Jake Ruppert (secretarially by Ed Barrow, as was common) and the Salt Lake president, as well as a witness in the form of star PCL pitcher Spider Baum, then a front office worker for the Salt Lake club. Signatures are 9+/10. Some fold separation has been professionally repaired but the document still presents very well and its enormous historical importance is not affected in the slightest. Pre-certified by PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.
