    Description

1925 Christy Mathewson Signed Letter. Full typed page on the letterhead of the "Boston National League Base Ball Company" traveled in the same envelope as the unsigned Ernest Padgett contract likewise presented within this auction. The letter references the $3,000 proposed salary for the 1925 season, and advises Padgett "to report at the Edgewater Inn, St. Petersburg, Fla. not later than the evening of Thursday, March 5th" for spring training. The letter closes with the signature of the team president, the great Christy Mathewson, whose "C. Mathewson" black fountain pen autograph rates a bold 9+/10. A marvelous and rare TLS from the final year of the legendary hurler's life. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
