1921 Kenesaw Mountain Landis Signed Typed Letter. Not only is this letter a historic offering due to being signed by the first Commissioner of Baseball, but it also provides very interesting content. Kenesaw Mountain Landis, the judge who was instilled as Commissioner in 1920 following the Black Sox scandal, writes to editor A.H. Carroll of the Pittsburgh Dispatch regarding information he sent about gambling in Pittsburgh. As the letter is dated July 1, 1921, we can see that the Black Sox World Series was still fresh in Landis' mind, and he was alert to all gambling issues in baseball. Though nothing that we know of ever came out about the Pirates being involved in gambling in 1921, the letter still is an excellent example of the way Landis stepped in to clean up baseball.

The letter measures 8.5x11" and is in Excellent condition. There is a small square of toning from the envelope, and three folds, but no major distractions. The signature does exhibit some smearing, but would rate a 6/10. Pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
