    Description

1920's Babe Ruth Life Insurance Documents with "George Herman Ruth" Signed Letter. While pioneering sports agent Christy Walsh was a key factor in establishing Babe Ruth as the first great celebrity endorser from the world of sport, his greatest service to the Bambino might be that which is represented by the offered lot. Ruth was notoriously careless with money, and it was Walsh who not only established his retirement fund, but encouraged him to purchase an insurance policy to care for his family after his passing. Best here is the typed letter to "The Equitable Life Assurance Society" that reads, "Kindly be advised that it is my wish to have all premium and dividend notices and all correspondence in connection with the above policy on my life addressed to me in care of Mr. Christy Walsh, 570 Seventh Avenue, New York City." The closing "George Herman Ruth" signature is a gorgeous 9+/10 black fountain pen beauty. Some paper loss at upper edges remains well clear of the text. Original storage folds evident. Also here is an unsigned copy of Ruth's 1923 policy, dated just a week before the Yankees would win their first World Championship, listing wife Helen and daughter Dorothy as heirs. VG-EX. Finally, a pair of 8x10" photos of Ruth post-retirement, in civilian clothing, EX. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.
