    Description

1917 Lou Gehrig's Signed Personal Autograph Book--Contains Second Earliest Gehrig Signature Known! Call him The Iron Colt. The future New York Yankees legend was just fourteen years old when he presented this simple little autograph book to his classmates, who penned autographs and brief sentiments for their buddy, such as "To Henry, Remember the present, Remember the past, Remember the fun in "Big Jim's" Class, Your Brother Grade 8." As to be expected, the vast majority of the writing within is written to Gehrig and not by him, but the interior cover does provide the earliest known handwriting and signature from the superstar slugger. It reads, "This book belongs to Henry Gehrig, 2079 Eighth Av., Manhattan, New York City." The writing has not faded a bit over the passing nine decades, surviving with impeccable 9+/10 boldness. The book itself exhibits mild handling and storage wear but nothing that comes close to threatening the structural integrity or the pages within. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.

The Lou Gehrig Collection, Part II.

The noble Iron Horse rides once again, and for the final time within the confines of The Lou Gehrig Collection presented by Heritage Auctions. The incredible offering of personally owned material from the Yankees legend first appeared within our August 2011 "Platinum Night" event. We made sure to hold a few great pieces back for our November auction, and this is one of them. This material was left to the consignor's family by Lou's mother Christina Gehrig upon her passing in the 1950's, and makes its hobby debut here.
