1916 Ty Cobb Handwritten Postcards & Letter Archive. Fascinating correspondence archive was passed down through the family of an old turkey hunting buddy of the legendary Ty Cobb, each of the six postcards addressed to Captain Robert Brannen of Hirshman, Georgia. He writes as he travels from spring training back to Detroit, and through his travels to various American League towns. Each is penned in black fountain pen ink which survives very well, with the cards exhibiting mailing and storage wear, but rarely affecting the writing. Our favorite is a postcard picturing the "American League Ball Park, Cleveland." Cobb writes, in part, "Here is where we play in Cleveland. Pretty good sized park and quite a few people."

He signs three of the postcards "T.R. Cobb," though one has wear over the autograph obscuring most of it. One is signed "Ty C.," the other two simply "Ty." Two of the postcards have some scribbling in the address fields in an unknown hand, but the correspondence sides are unaffected. The collection concludes on a sad note, a handwritten page on Cobb's personal letterhead to his friend's wife, which begins, "I have just this moment heard the sad news and I want you to know you have our sincerest sympathies in your bereavement." This page exhibits considerable wear, with apparent insect damage, though the important portion of the closing "Mr. and Mrs. Tyrus R. Cobb" signature is spared.
