    Description

1912 Detroit Tigers Team Signed Baseball. One only states the obvious when characterizing a sphere such as this as tremendously scarce. Team signed baseballs from the Dead Ball Era almost never appear in the hobby, and one featuring the greatest figure of the age, the fierce Ty Cobb, certainly carries much added intrigue. Though the Tigers had stumbled mightily since their American League Championship season three years earlier, the Georgia Peach continue his reign of terror over opposing pitching, leading the League with his second consecutive season above the .400 mark. Happily, Cobb's side panel signature (5/10) survives as one of the few legible signatures remaining, with close to a century of surface wear claiming most of the balance once residing on this OAL (Johnson) orb. Unbelievably, second strongest is that of Sam Crawford (4/10), Cobb's Hall of Fame sidekick. Moriarty, Moran and Kocher are the other names we can discern. Of course, condition problems must be excused when considering a piece of such advanced age, and finding Cobb and Crawford on a team ball, the Ruth and Gehrig of their age, is cause for great celebration. LOA from PSA/DNA. LOA from James Spence Authentication.
