    Description

1911 Albert Spalding Signed "America's National Game" Book. Essential early text from one of the key pioneers of our National Pastime, "America's National Game" traces the sport from its birth, to its growth in the military camps of the American Civil War, to the first professional teams, and forward through the first decade of the twentieth century. Every serious baseball historian has read it, and every collector of rare baseball books owns a copy, or desires one. But very few are fortunate enough to hold an autographed copy such as the one listed here, inscribed to a famous fishing rod maker who surely made Spalding's acquaintance through their respective sporting goods enterprises. In the boldest of black fountain pen ink, the inscription on the book's opening page reads, "To my old and esteemed friend Geo. B. Appleton with my compliments, A.G. Spalding, New York, Oct. 20, 1911." The binding is a bit loose at the spine and there is the slightest water stain to the fold out at the center of the book, but the volume is otherwise complete and undamaged, and the all-important inscription is unharmed by any condition faults. In the religion of baseball, this is holy scripture. Pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
